The Basics Registered Name: Aztareal Nickname: Aztec Age: 3 [Y8] Breed: Thoroughbred Colour & Markings: Chestnut Sabino. 2 rear white stockings, front right pastern, bold white face. Height: 16.2hh Gender: Colt
Genetics: Gender: XY Coat: ee, Aa, nSB
Personality: Aztareal is a stunning colt and is truly the joy of the stables. As our first racehorse we always knew he was special but when he was first born we could not have expected this. This energetic colt never stops, he is constantly on the go and never seems to lose his boundless energy. Certainly, he manages to keep going throughout the day and sometimes into the night. He is somewhat fussy and dislikes change, meaning that it takes him a while to adapt to changes in regime or diet. Furthermore, he is choosey about who he choses to spend time with and will mess about if he is put to work with anyone other than Alexia on his back.
On the track Aztareal comes into his own. He has a good, firm stride and a somewhat level head. He starts well and likes to settle into the pack for the majority of the race before using his great speed and spirit in the straight. Aztareal hates to give up and hates to lose and as such he will put his all into every race he is entered in.
Aztareal hates to be left in his stable for more than a day at a time and will become easily agitated if he feels he is being negleted. Indeed, his behaviour will change toward those he feels should have been lavishing attention on him and he can be as stubborn as anything - unless they bring him apples of course!
On The Track: Aztareal starts well and loves to run in the pack however does not run well elsewhere and has no issues with being boxed. He is good at pacing and doesn't become excitable or lose focus easily. He has a great deal of heart and this serves him well in the straight where he uses his speed to his advantage. This boy has a lot of spirit and does not give in easily, his will to win is great and this really shows in the races he runs. If he can make eye contact with another horse he shines all the brighter as it spurs on his spirit. Aztareal is not affected by track conditions.

History: Purchased as a weanling of around six months, Aztec has only known two homes in his life, and most of the time that has been with Alexia. She purchased him on a whim, knowing that she intended to go into horse racing, and hired Matthias Lanning to train the colt. When Alexia reopened Silver Stride Stables Aztec had already spent most of his life there. He was entered in his first race and has been performing well.

Feedback July Week 2 - Snowflake - I really liked Aztareal, he has a nice lengthy personality and he had a nice workout. Despite having no prior experience, unlike the rest of the field, he did very well. November Week 2 - Sunfrost - Big field, young horse, not to mention he's two. It was tough. Very tough. Some things came down to seniority - who has seen more of a track and would be able to handle themselves admirably in a situation with a huge field? Black Legend had an advantage here because of that. Even though he's hard to handle, he's had more time to work with his riders and has seen more of the track. Aztareal is relatively new to the racing scene, like all the two year olds in this race. Sometimes it came down to positioning, other times to other things. Racing always has an element of luck in it. There is nothing set in stone. The Triple Crown champion can come last in a race where he's beaten all the other entrants before. I like Aztareal a lot - it came down to a little bit of luck today. It was, as I said before, a tough race. December Week 4 - Sunfrost - Even though he has the least experience, he was the most well prepped in the field. And though he is not primarily a sprinter, he was able to fly out there today. His mid pack style meant he had plenty left in the tank in the later stretches of the race. He was so, so close to taking the win. Had there been another furlong this race would have been his. Seraphim just had a slightly better ride out there than him today, but he's definitely a strong colt with some amazing talent.
