Up to this point, Mona had always been worked out alone. She was a force unto herself when it came to the active racers, outclassing them all by far. But there was one other at the stable who could take her. A stallion who had been retired from racing and put to stud. He may have stopped racing, but he hadn't forgotten how to. He had been waiting patiently for the right partner to be found so that he could be used in training sessions, a source of competition to push the high-flying stars onwards.
Alexia had put a lot of thought into this, as to whether it was a good idea to pit the filly against the stallion and who should jockey Freckles. After all, the stallion was not the easiest ride around as he often needed to be pushed to actually run. But when she thought about it she knew who was perfect for him and so she had approached the jockey she had in mind. Alana. After all, the woman had a lot fewer rides than Jacob and she was sure to impress when she mounted a horse like Freckles.
The Cremello stallion walked calmly behind the brunette jockey, affectionately nuzzling her shoulder as he did. But Alana ignored him, determined not to reward him before the race was over. After all, she was convinced he would run better if he learnt that the only way he would get reward was to work well. Buthe was adorable, and even Alana struggled not to love him. It wasn't exactly easy to ignore him either, when he kept lavishing affection on her.
But they had a task and as Alexia graced the track with her filly, Moondance, Alana felt her teth set on edge. What she wouldn't give to ride that filly, but if she couldn't ride her she'd just have to defeat her and so she mounted the Cremello stallion and pushed him toward the gate. He gated well and Moondance followed. Alana looked over the side of the box at Alexia. "Bring it on." she muttered as she shifted her gaze to the track, setting her jaw in aggrivation.
The gates opened and Mona flew out, Freckles taking a position about a length behind. Mona set a pae which was about average and Freckles easily matched it, almost matching her stride for stride at they moved down the stretch and toward the corner. In the corner he moved outwards slightly as he started to speed up, reducing the lead of the filly to only half a length as they came into the straight. Then the real race began as the speed of ona surged. Alana moved the crop again the cremello stallion's rump several times before he started his surge. The pair stromed down the straight, Freckles gaining on Mona until they were head on head and then the filly knew what she had to do. With a final effort she pushed forward past the post, winning by a nose.
